List hai toh hit hai - Things You Should Know Before You Watch Thor Love and Thunder - Episode 76
The highly anticipated fourth standalone film of Thor, the God of Thunder is hitting theaters this weekend on the 8th of July. Taika Waititi will return to helm the project with Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman reprising their roles, while Christian Bale will play the antagonist, Gorr the God Butcher in the film. So here are some things you should know before you watch Thor: Love and Thunder.
Natalie Portman as the new Mighty Thor
Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will return to the franchise after more than a decade. Her character was last seen in the underwhelming Thor: The Dark. While her return as Thor’s love interest will certainly excite fans, it is her new avatar as the Mighty Thor that has created plenty of hype. The Mighty Thor is the female version of the original Thor who also wields the Mjölnir, which was once a crucial part of Chris Hemsworth’s character.
The Guardians/Thor team-up
The God of Thunder will continue his partnership and friendship with Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Fans of the franchise will recollect the fact that it was the Guardians of the Galaxy that rescued Thor after his ship was attacked in outer space by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
A story within a story
Over the years a few Marvel adaptations such as the TV series Hawkeye and the film Thor: Ragnarok, have featured plays or re-enactments of the Avengers or people associated with the Avengers. In Hawkeye, the heroics of the Avengers were adapted as a stage musical in which Jeremey Renner’s character Clint Barton aka Hawkeye attends with his family, and in Thor: Ragnarok the story of Asgard was adapted as a play, commissioned by Loki while he was impersonating his adoptive father Odin. The play features some stellar cameos with Thor played by Chris Hemsworth’s brother Luke, Odin by the legendary Sam Neill, and Loki by Hollywood superstar Matt Damon. In fact, there are reports that the trio will return for Thor: Love and Thunder.
Gorr the God Butcher and Lord Voldermort
Fans of the Thor comic books will point out the similarities in the appearances of the villainous Gorr the God Butcher and Lord Voldermort in the Harry Potter franchise. The bald head, bleached skin, lack of nostrils and snake-like appearance are simply hard not to ignore. So for the film, Marvel Studios boss, Kevin Feige, decided on a slightly different look for Christian Bale’s character in the film to avoid any comparison with Ralph Fiennes’s look as the Dark Lord in Harry Potter.
Trouble in New Asgard
After the destruction of Asgard in Thor: Ragnarok, the remaining Asgardians under the leadership of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie settled in a patch of land on earth called New Asgard. However, eagle-eyed fans noticed in a blink-and-you-will-miss news report in Spider-Man: No Way Home, that there is political instability in New Asgard. It is unclear whether there is an uprising against Valkyrie or if Valkyrie has stepped away from leadership.
