The Netflix docu-series is a deep dive into the various forms of fraud and corruption in the global economy. Academy Award-winning  filmmaker Alex Gibney serves as executive producer for the series, and it aired for two seasons with six one-hour episodes for each season. 

  1. Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal - Available on Netflix

The 2020 documentary film focuses on the infamous 2019 college admissions bribery scandal in the US. Using reenactments and real interviews the documentary film exposes the $25 million scandal involving around 33 parents, which included high-profile celebrities.

  1. Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened - Available on Netflix

Chris Smith’s documentary chronicles Billy McFarland and the much-publicized scandal surrounding the Fyre Festival of 2017 that never happened. Several celebrities and influencers such as Emily Ratajkowski, Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, and Hailey Baldwin were paid to promote the festival. The organizers were found guilty of fraud with several lawsuits still pending.

Yet another Alex Gibney documentary film makes this list. The Inventor: Out For Blood In Silicon Valley. The HBO documentary film details the company called Theranos, which was marketed as revolutionary health technology, and its founder Elizabeth Holmes, who was just 19 when she founded the company. She has since been found guilty of fraud and is currently awaiting sentencing by the US courts. 

  1. Made You Look: A True Story About Fake Art - Available on Netflix

Directed by Barry Avrich, this riveting documentary focuses on America’s greatest art fraud. Set in the affluent part of New York, the documentary focuses on the $80 million fraud and the fake art sold to the Knoedler Gallery. 

 

  1. Love Fraud -  Available on Voot and VI Movies
    The four-part docuseries is about a con-man named Richard Scott. Scott conned innocent women by promising them love and affection but instead stole from them. Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady are the directors of this Showtime series 

     
  2. An Honest Liar - Available for free on Plex

The 2014 documentary film An Honest Liar tells the story of James Randi, a former magician and escape artist. Created by Justin Weinstein and Tyler Measom, the documentary chronicles Randi as he exposes faith healers, con artists, and psychics.
